The Six Perfections: Timeless Tools for a Meaningful Life
A Half-Day Retreat with John Bruna
Sunday, August 10th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm IN PERSON & ON ZOOM
Join us for a transformative workshop with John Bruna, spiritual director and primary teacher at the Way of Compassion Dharma Center, on the Six Perfections (Pāramitās)—a foundational framework of the Bodhisattva path in Mahāyāna Buddhism. These ancient practices aren’t lofty ideals; they’re practical guides to living with intentionality and compassion in our daily lives.
Grounded in John’s authentic and accessible teaching style, drawing from his Buddhist monastic training and real-world experience, you’ll:
- Learn the Six Perfections—generosity, ethical discipline, patience, joyous effort, concentration and wisdom—as described in traditional Buddhist texts.
- Explore how these timeless virtues can enhance meaningful action, resilient living, emotional balance and wise decision-making in your personal, professional and relational life.
- Engage in guided reflection, sharing, and meditation, bringing these perfections into context within your own values, beliefs and life circumstances.
- Walk away with clear practices and insights you can use immediately: compassionate giving, ethical clarity, emotional patience, sustained focus, joyful effort and discerning wisdom.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of this offering is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($36, $48, $60, or $72 or scholarship options of $18 or $10) supports our nonprofit, which pays the costs of the building, utilities, website, administration, etc. If you would like a scholarship of $0, please simply reach out to the registrar. No questions asked.
In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teacher of the class is not compensated but rather shares the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. You are invited to make a donation to support the teacher in continuing their valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
